Fix Authentication Failed error: Get FreeNX NoMachine NX working on Mint 4.0 or likely any Ubuntu or Debian based Linux

by Admin on Apr.23, 2008, under Linux Unix Stuff, The Beginning

Well I didn’t have a good time getting the NXSERVER from NoMachine to work right after downloading the .deb debian package files from their website, the client, the node, and the server module.

(Windows NX client dies/exits with this error:)
NX> 200 Connected to address: xx.xx.xx.xx on port: 22
NX> 202 Authenticating user: nx
NX> 208 Using auth method: publickey
NX> 204 Authentication failed.

Apparently NX server installs the ssh keys in the wrong place, when you try to login with the NX client it looks in some /usr/NX/share/ instead of /usr/NX/etc/keys and the easy fix is to simply run /usr/NX/bin/nxserver –keygen and it will recreate keys in the right place, then just go and recopy the key from inside the client .key file in the shared keys directory and paste it in your NX CLIENT and the connection will then complete successfully. If you don’t know where nxserver is just try to do a whereis nxserver or which nxserver or use locate or do a find / -name nxserver

Well, I hope this helps someone get their FreeNX remote control software working because I sure don’t want anyone suffering through the pitiful performance of VNC!

Might I add that I find Mint to be a wonderful Ubuntu/Debian based distribution, highly recommended especially for those who don’t just need it as a server but also as their primary DESKTOP operating system. This Mint OS has it all, plays all your music, movies, DVDs out of the box. You can still install Automatix or any other Debian .deb packages or use the built-in excellent Synaptic package manager or the unique MintInstall to install popular software with one click of a button off an ever-growing list on the website.

I run Mint 4.0 as a VM (VMWARE Virtual Machine) under 64-bit CentOS x86_64 4.2 and its nice to know FreeNX supports file/printer sharing and multimedia for rerouting AUDIO from the server to the client.

Software Developers will LOVE the one click install of the ECLIPSE IDE and Mono .Net platform. If you thought Ubuntu was great, think of this as a special MINT version!

Will McCain try and reach out to conservatives or will GOP snub its base yet again?

by Admin on Apr.11, 2008, under The Beginning

Steve Holland wrote that to the GOP, “Mike Huckabee is considered too inexperienced to be a heartbeat away from the presidency.” A strange word (inexperienced) to use for the man who is actually more experienced than the other candidates that were mentioned. The TRUE reason is that the GOP would rather see Clinton or Obama president over any chance of Mike Huckabee becoming President if anything would happen to McCain, considering he will be the oldest President.

The GOP is all about aristocracy, they consider themselves the “Ruling Class”, the “Skull & Bones” club with inherited wealth and power. They will do their best to not allow anyone passage to the Presidency who is not one of them or who will not be happy to be their puppet. Mike Huckabee has shown that he is a man of conviction, a man of principles, a man of his word. The GOP wants nothing to do with him.

Huckabee has said in a 4-10-08 conference-call that the McCain campaign has not even notified him that he’s on their list of running-mates considered. I am certain that Mike Huckabee is not on their list, the only way this may change is if they feel they will certainly lose without him and if they feel they can ‘rein him in’ quickly and make him their puppet. You can read the pathetic doublespeak about Huckabee yourself at http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080411/pl_nm/usa_politics_mccain_vp_dc

Mike Huckabee has always been very respectful towards McCain and has stated that conservatives should support him because Barack Hussein Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton will take the country completely in the opposite direction we want it. McCain though, has yet to return the favors and give true conservatives everywhere even a hint that he is considering Mike Huckabee as his VP running-mate.

Charlton Heston dies at 84 after battling Alzheimer’s, may he rest in peace…

by Admin on Apr.07, 2008, under The Beginning

In 2002, near the end of his five years as president of the NRA, Heston disclosed he had symptoms consistent with Alzheimer’s disease. “What you can’t cure, you must endure…” – Charlton Heston.

Soon after Heston publicly disclosed his battle with Alzheimer’s, Moore sought him out to discredit him and his gun-control views, in the hopes of advancing gun-control laws. (His interview of Heston, in usual relentless and repetitive fashion fishing for a political faux pas, was used in Moore’s 2003 best documentary winner “Bowling for Columbine,” which blasted America for lack of gun-control.)

Moore used a clip of Heston holding aloft a rifle at an NRA rally and proclaiming “from my cold, dead hands.” The director annoyingly and disrespectfully flustered the actor in an interview later in the film by pressing him on his gun-control stance. Heston eventually walked out on Moore, having had enough of Moore’s pompous and condescending attitude.

(Towards the end Moore keeps badgering Heston asking him to apologize …. I wonder when Moore will apologize for shamelessly attacking someone who had just announced he’s battling Alzheimer’s.)

Moore’s Web site on Sunday featured a photo of Heston, the date of his birth and death and a note from the actor’s family requesting that donations be made to the Motion Picture and Television Fund in lieu of flowers.

Moore did not respond to e-mail and phone requests seeking comment.
