Charlton Heston dies at 84 after battling Alzheimer’s, may he rest in peace…

by Admin on Apr.07, 2008, under The Beginning

In 2002, near the end of his five years as president of the NRA, Heston disclosed he had symptoms consistent with Alzheimer’s disease. “What you can’t cure, you must endure…” – Charlton Heston.

Soon after Heston publicly disclosed his battle with Alzheimer’s, Moore sought him out to discredit him and his gun-control views, in the hopes of advancing gun-control laws. (His interview of Heston, in usual relentless and repetitive fashion fishing for a political faux pas, was used in Moore’s 2003 best documentary winner “Bowling for Columbine,” which blasted America for lack of gun-control.)

Moore used a clip of Heston holding aloft a rifle at an NRA rally and proclaiming “from my cold, dead hands.” The director annoyingly and disrespectfully flustered the actor in an interview later in the film by pressing him on his gun-control stance. Heston eventually walked out on Moore, having had enough of Moore’s pompous and condescending attitude.

(Towards the end Moore keeps badgering Heston asking him to apologize …. I wonder when Moore will apologize for shamelessly attacking someone who had just announced he’s battling Alzheimer’s.)

Moore’s Web site on Sunday featured a photo of Heston, the date of his birth and death and a note from the actor’s family requesting that donations be made to the Motion Picture and Television Fund in lieu of flowers.

Moore did not respond to e-mail and phone requests seeking comment.
